Merlot is renowned for its remarkable adaptability, capable of creating stunning blends with various grapes while also shining as a varietal wine. Often confused with Cabernet Sauvignon during tastings, both grapes share a lineage from Cabernet Franc and can exhibit similar flavors and textures. However, Merlot is typically softer and less tannic, making it a favorite among many wine enthusiasts. Its aromatic profile includes delightful notes of blackberry, cassis, baked cherries, dark chocolate, and mocha. Merlot holds the title of the second most widely grown grape in the world, with its most prestigious expression found in the Médoc region of Bordeaux.

Introduced to Chile in the 19th century, Merlot quickly adapted to the country’s ideal terroir for Bordeaux varieties. Similar to California, Chilean Merlot is characterized as “Warm-Climate Merlot,” boasting a flavor profile that emphasizes rich fruit notes alongside a robust tannic structure.

Our VineCo Chilean Merlot is a medium-bodied red wine that showcases flavors of blackberry, cherry, and vanilla. This dry red features a medium oak influence and an alcohol content of 13%. The kit includes medium toast American oak chips, which are highly regarded for imparting a balanced complexity of vanillin and spice, as well as classic oak aromas.
