The Panda clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris “Panda”) is a selectively bred designer morph of the common clownfish, prized for its striking black-and-white coloration. Unlike the standard orange ocellaris, the Panda variant displays bold black bodies with irregular white markings that resemble the appearance of a panda, making it highly sought after in the marine aquarium trade. Hardy, peaceful, and reef-safe, it is an excellent choice for both beginners and advanced aquarists seeking something unique for their reef tanks.

  • Size Adult length: ~3–4 inches (8–11 cm). Current size available: 4+ cm juveniles to young sub-adults.
  • Behavior & Social Needs Peaceful, reef-safe species but may become territorial once established. Best kept singly, in bonded pairs, or in small groups with a defined hierarchy. Compatible with most reef-safe fish and invertebrates. Avoid housing with aggressive species that may bully slower or smaller clownfish.
  • Tank Conditions Tank size: Minimum 20 gallons for a pair; larger recommended for community setups. Temperature: 75–82°F (24–28°C). pH: 8.0–8.4. Salinity: 1.020–1.025 specific gravity. Setup suggestions: Thrive in both reef and fish-only marine tanks. Live rock, caves, and strong biological filtration recommended. Will host in anemones such as Entacmaea quadricolor (Bubble Tip Anemone) but do not require one to thrive.
  • Diet Omnivorous: Accepts a wide variety of prepared, frozen, and live foods. Core diet should include marine pellets, flakes, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood. Supplement with algae-based foods for balanced nutrition. Feed 2–3 times daily in small amounts.
